Tarecia Brooks wins NHLDC raffle

Fothergill, Gingerland resident Tarecia Brookes is the winner of the two-bedroom house which was at stake in the Nevis Housing and Land Development Corporation’s (NHLDC) 25th anniversary raffle.

Brookes was one of four employees of Best Buy Supermarket who was presented with tickets by manager of the business Rudolf Duggins.

“He purchased a few tickets and distributed them to the staff and I am the lucky one…my ticket is 6713. They say 13 is an unlucky number but I love 13,” explained a beaming Brooks as she was congratulated by NHLDC General Manager Eustace Nisbett at the house in Cherry Gardens on Thursday.

The administrative assistant said she had purchased a few tickets on her own and had also applied unsuccessfully for a loan to secure a house, so she is happy that she finally gets her own home in 2010.

Brookes who was not present when the drawing took place on December 31st, hopes to move into her new home by her next birthday in February.

While extending congratulations Nisbett revealed that the official presentation of the keys will tentatively take place on January 14, when minister responsible for housing and land, Hon. Robelto Hector would have returned from overseas.

Brookes’ house is one of over 100 constructed as part of the Cherry Gardens Development Project.
